SHOULD £200,000 be spent to provide Bude with an official cycle path?
At the July 5 meeting of Bude-Stratton Town Council, Cllr Paul Tilzey spoke about the cycle path between Summerleaze and Crooklets beaches, adding that it would ‘cost £200,000 or thereabouts’ to fund, with funding being paid upfront.
“The most logical group to fund it would surely be the town council, not the Coastal Communities Team,” he told the meeting. “Do we really need a cycle path, or do we withdraw the sign that says ‘no cycling’ on the paths? Because otherwise you’re technically spending £200,000 on something you don’t really need!”
Liberal Democrat Cornwall Councillor for Bude, Peter La Broy, said that the application was ‘temporarily shelved’ because the applicant, the Coastal Communities Team, was not the owner. “If a grant is awarded, it would need to be awarded to Bude-Stratton Town Council. It needs to be through this council, because they are the long-term owners.
“I am very in favour of a link from Crooklets. You could ride from Crooklets to Widemouth Bay, off-road.”
