LAUNCESTON Young Farmers Club recently held its annual dinner and dance at Trethorne.

Mary Andrews welcomed everyone and gave a short speech on her 12 months as Launceston YFC president.

Speakers for the evening were Jeremy Oatey, Cheryl Vaulter, Matt Hosken (Cornwall YFC chairman) and Alex Cornish (Launceston YFC chairman) where a great evening was had by all to celebrate another successful year for the club.

Following the meal, the prize winners were announced which were as follows:

Edwin Baker Cup (boy and girl with most points) — Mary Ann Screech and Nick Uglow; JD Rashley Cup (best new boy and girl member) — George Bearns and Sarah Cowling; Jubilee Cup (best non-committee boy and girl) — Anna Parsons and Simon Cornish; Ruby Trophy (boy and girl attending most meetings) — Avril Trehane and Nick Uglow; Joan Blackmore Cup (best dramatic achievement) — Matthew Halls; The Eric Neale Cup (most points in stock judging) — Matthew Halls; The Fiona French Cup (most helpful members) — Avril Trehane and Jack Pannell; JC Maynard Plaque (boy and girl gaining most points at County Rally) — Mary Ann Screech and Jack Pannell; Dan Batten Public Speaking Cup (the best or most improved public speaker) — Avril Trehane; CM Butter Cup (members’ member for best all rounder) — Avril Trehane; Gemma Smale Rowland Perpetual Cup (member excelling in their role) — Nick Uglow; Janet Ham Cup (music and artistic achievement) — Mary Ann Screech 

A club spokesperson said: “This has been yet another successful year for the club, and our dinner and dance was a great celebration of the year’s events. Our new members evening is on October 17 at 7.30pm at the Eagle House Hotel, and we welcome anyone aged ten to 26 with an interest in seeing what we get up to and how you can get involved.
