ONE WI member was left in shock after she was presented with not one but two cups at Launceston Show on Thursday, July 27.
It was made all the more special for Sharon Parnell, of Launceston, as this was her first time competing at the show, having only recently joined the WI.
Following the presentations, Mrs Parnell said: “I’m in shock. I am so surprised to have won a cup for novice cookery and novice craft item. I made sausage rolls and a photo frame. It was such a shock when they called my name as this is the first show I have done with Launceston WI, as I only joined recently!”
Mrs Parnell said she had only entered to represent Launceston WI and help the group out. She said: “I didn’t know what to expect. If you don’t know what the standard of entries is going to be, you can’t know what to expect, but I certainly didn’t think I would win anything let alone two cups.
“It’s nice to show that the WI takes part.”
When asked if she will be entering again, Mrs Parnell concluded: “I think I will have to now. It has been such an exciting day and I have really enjoyed it. I think the flower displays look lovely, so next year I might try for the novice flower competition — well, that is what I will set my eye on anyway.”
She added: “I’m all psyched up for next year now!”
