Despite the drizzle and thick fog in Delabole on Sunday morning, villagers packed out the carnival marquee to start the week of events taking place leading up to the grand carnival procession on Saturday.
A united family service took place on Sunday morning, led by the Rev Bryan Ede, along with the Rev Peter Dixon and many helpers.
The service was followed by the crowning of this year's fairy queen and attendants, which was performed by the outgoing carnival queen, Carys Lewin.
In the afternoon, everyone enjoyed a get together over doughnuts and coffee, before making off to watch the Edwin Hamlyn Motorcycle Memorial Bike Ride make their way through the village.
Alison Stacey, carnival secretary, said: "The weather can only improve as the week goes on but there was a well and truly good Delabole carnival spirit in the village."
