RESIDENTS of Camelford and the surrounding villages came out in force on Saturday to watch the town's annual carnival procession.
The large amount that lined the streets showed that, despite the miserable weather, community spirit was certainly not dead.
Although the main street through Camelford has been closed for the last few weeks, it was opened specially for the occasion.
The standard of the floats and entries was extremely high and made the judges' job very difficult.
It was good to see many of the clubs and organisations in the town enter into the spirit.
Other traders supported the event through advertising in the carnival programme.
The carnival procession was led by Sammi Rowe on horseback, closely followed by the new carnival fairy queen, Jessica Ginger and her attendant, Isla Symons. The girls — who had been crowned earlier by Nicky Hill — looked resplendent in their outfits.
The royalty was closely followed by the Camelford Town Band and the Camelford Junior Band and they were greeted with great enthusiasm and cheers from the crowd.
The procession then followed with floats, walking entries and visiting queens — Delabole and Bude.
It all made for a wonderful spectacle to see.
It will be a little while before all the money has been collected and counted, but it is hoped that the collection will be up on last year.
Proceeds will be donated towards the Camelford Christmas Lights.
See this week's 'Post' for results and a colour pictorial of the event.
