IT was a perfect day for a Food Fair in Marhamchurch on August bank holiday which was blessed by crowds enjoying an opportunity to sample and buy from local suppliers.

The 16 stalls ranged from organic vegetables and sourdough bread to pasties and pulled mutton wraps, all to a tuneful accompaniment from a local band, Finch.

A Food Fair spokesperson said: “One of the objectives of the event is to bring the different elements of Marhamchurch village life together and the primary school took an active part with a plant stall, a poster display and a toy hunt.

“The community shop is one of the heartbeats of the village and played a central role in both planning and support as did the Bray village hall and parish council.

“The organisers would like to thank the support of many volunteers and the wonderful stallholders who all contributed to raising over £1,200 which will be distributed to those local groups who have been cash-starved over the last year.”

They added: “All in all, a celebration of all that community life is in Marhamchurch.”
