LOCALS and holidaymakers were out in force to enjoy last week’s Poughill Revel and Cuckoo Fair — one of the busiest ever held.

The Revel was opened by Mr Graeme Colwill at 2pm last Thursday, August 4. There was music from Bude Metric Brass, and a dance performance from CJ’s Dance School.

There were traditional games for all to enjoy, including the coconut shy and hoopla stalls. The flower club sold arrangements members had made on the day, and there were also cake stalls and bric-a-brac, as well as a refreshment tent and a barbecue.

Entertainment also included tractor and trailer rides and pony rides.

Revel and fair secretary Charlotte Veale told the Post: “It was an absolutely brilliant, fantastic afternoon, extremely well supported by both locals and holidaymakers.

“It’s amazing to see such a traditional event carry on — we think it was the busiest Revel yet.”

Volunteers give up time to organise the Revel. Ian Osborne was presented with a hamper, as he is retiring from his role as chairman after 16 years.

Charlotte added: “Thank you so much Ian for all you have done for us.

“We are always grateful for people to join us and help us on the day.

“On behalf of the Revel committee thank you to everyone for your continued help and support, and thank you to the local businesses, and individuals, for their kind donations.

“We hope the Revel will continue for many years to come.”

All profits from the event will be donated to local charities.
