PLENTY of entertainment helped bring a crowd to Lydney Harbour as part of a community day to raise awareness of the historic asset.

Leader of Lydney Harbour Trust, Rob Campbell said the event attracted new supporters who will help drive their appeal forward to revitalise the harbour into an attraction which features amenities.

The trust also wants to protect the site from possible disposal by the Environment Agency.

Rob said: "Despite the weather the mood was very positive and those that took part promised to return next year – we'd look to get a really interesting vessel or two in for that weekend.

"We are intending to get the trust properly established as a C.I.O. (Charity Incorporated Organisation) which, I understand, was introduced by the government to encourage business within charitable groups.

"Among our work for the year is the urgent need for toilets and a café at the harbour. We have to work this around issues relating to the impending change of management, and we still don't know who that will be.

"A 'floating' cafe seems to be the favourite idea. There is a lot to do there but existing public and political opinion is really important in moving that forward."
