On Saturday, Launceston Rugby Club presented a cheque of £5,040 to Lesley Ann Simpson, a representative of the Chestnut Appeal.
The money was raised from the club’s fundraising events at the start of this season, which aimed to raise money for the prostate cancer charity.
Club legend Crispin Earle, who is battling the disease, said: “It was great to be able to hand over a cheque for that amount. Considering we only started raising money at the start of the season, it has been an amazing achievement for the club.
“A lot of people have been surprised by the amount we’ve been able to raise in such a short amount of time.”
Crispin praised the combined efforts of the players, supporters and the club’s sponsors, adding: “It has been a real team effort from Launceston rugby club.
“We raised approximately £1,500 from the raffle we held in December. and were also helped from the £3,500 total raised from the players’ calender,”
The calender total was a combination of donations and sponsors.
Crispin said: “Massive thanks to club captain Lloyd Duke, Oli Baston and the calendar’s sponsors —Rocks Locks, Maunders and the many others.
“The Chesnut Appeal will keep the money raised within the local area, being based in Derriford.”
