THE A30 westbound near Colliford Lake, Bodmin, was closed for several hours on July 6 following a serious two-vehicle collision.

Police officers were called at around 1.20pm following the collision between a grey Volkswagen and a Land Rover Discovery on the westbound carriageway.

The driver of the car, a man in his 30s from Norfolk, sustained serious injuries, initially described as ‘life-threatening’. A further three adults and one child in the car also sustained injuries and all were taken to Derriford Hospital.

The driver of the Land Rover, a man in his 60s from Scotland, suffered minor injuries.

Medical treatment was administered soon after the incident by members of the public and emergency services.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue were soon called at 1.26pm by Police to reports of at least one person trapped in a vehicle on its roof. One appliance and a rescue tender were mobilised from Bodmin Fire Station and one appliance and a wholetime station manager were mobilised from Launceston Fire Station.

A spokesperson said: “On arrival crews met with police and assessed the scene. They found three casualties on the roadside and confirmed one casualty was physically trapped inside a vehicle with potentially serious injuries.

“Crews waited for the arrival of paramedics and Cornwall Air Ambulance critical care staff to put together an extrication plan to safely remove the casualty from the vehicle.”

At 2.49pm crews confirmed the casualty had been successfully extricated from the vehicle and was being transferred to the Cornwall Air Ambulance and on to the Major Trauma Centre at Derriford Hospital.

During the incident Highways England assisted emergency services with road closures and putting a diversion in place.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the collision and are particularly keen to hear from anyone with relevant dashcam footage.
