RUMOUR has it that a new Twentieth Century Fox film has landed near Camelford, with names such as Patrick Stewart and Rebecca Ferguson being thrown into the mix.

With the arrival of film sets and crew to Davidstow Moor the weekend before last, Facebook pages such as ‘Launceston Notice Board’ and ‘lovecamelford’ have seen people discuss between themselves which television series or movie film crews have come from.

However, people seem to have come up with their own conclusion of the mysterious set — that of a new film title, The Kid Who Would Be King, which is supposedly set to hit cinema screens in 2018, and is directed by Joe Cornish (Attack the Block, The Adventures of Tintin, Ant-Man) with Patrick Stewart (Star Trek, X-Men, Logan) and Rebecca Ferguson (The White Queen) rumoured to be starring in the feature film.

Although the film is said to be ‘top secret’, with crew members apparently refusing to say what they were filming, word has reached the mouths of people in the area that the movie has also been filming in Tintagel.

When the Post approached Twentieth Century Fox for confirmation, a press release on the title was issued.

The Kid Who Would Be King tells the story of Alex, a 12-year-old British schoolboy whose every day problems are dwarfed by his discovery of the mythical sword, Excalibur. Now, with the most powerful sword in history in the hands of the most powerless schoolboy in Britain, an epic adventure begins as Alex and his friends must thwart a medieval villain named Morgana, who is hell-bent on destroying the world.

Louis Serkis (Alice Through the Looking Glass) stars as Alex. Newcomer Dean Chaumoo plays his best friend Bedders, and Tom Taylor (The Dark Tower) and Rhianna Doris (Secret Life of Boys) play Lance and Kaye, who complete Alex’s band of would-be warriors.

Angus Imrie (Kingdom) plays a young incarnation of the wizard Merlin, with Sir Patrick Stewart as the senior version. Rebecca Ferguson plays the evil Morgana.

Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner will produce the film, alongside Nira Park of Big Talk Pictures.

Twentieth Century Fox will distribute the picture and Michael Ireland will oversee the project for the studio.

One person on Launceston Notice Board suggested that it is ‘a film based on a book written in the states’, whilst a woman on lovecamelford said that filming had also been taking place in Tintagel, explaining that the town was shut off for two days and that anyone disrupted would be reimbursed.

The Kid Who Would Be King’s unit publicist got in touch with the Post and said: “I’d like to confirm that we did indeed complete some shooting on the moor (Davidstow). None of the cast were involved in the filming, but the landscape is stunning.”
