CREWS from as far as Liskeard were called to a property fire at Whitstone on Tuesday morning.

A 999 call was made at 3.40am and the property was said to be well alight on the arrival of crews from Bude and Holsworthy. The fire involved a domestic building measuring 8 x 10 metres.

Crews from Holsworthy, Bude, Launceston, Hartland, the water carrier from Liskeard, the aerial ladder platform from Barnstaple tackled the fire, using breathing apparatus and hose reels to extinguish the blaze. Western Power engineers attended to isolate the electrics to the house and welfare support was sent from St Dennis to the incident.

At 9.15am the incident was scaled down, with crews extinguishing and damping down some small areas of fire. Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service was due to conduct a fire investigation to establish the cause of the fire as the Post went to press.
