THE Fire Service received a call to

domestic property full of smoke in Bradworthy at around 6.45pm on Wednesday, December 23.

One fire appliance from Hartland and two fire appliances from Bideford attended with Watch Commander Allin in charge.

Fire crews confirmed a fire involving a leather sofa within a ground floor

living room. The fire was out on

arrival, and fire crews inspected the property to ensure it was safe.

One female, suffering from chronic asthma, was given oxygen therapy due to smoke inhalation. Ambulance crews attended and tended to the lady on scene.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said the cause of the fire was believed to be accidental.

"Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service urge the public to be aware of the risks associated with appliances using solid fuel over the festive period, particularly during this recent cold spell.

"All heating and cooking appliances should be regularly maintained and be a safe distance from any combustible materials, to prevent fires due to radiated heat."
