THE calibre of the floats at this year’s Hartland Carnival was unbelievable and the carnival committee would like to thank everyone involved with making this year so great.
There was an army of people involved in hosting the carnival week’s activities as well as the ‘grand procession’ on the Saturday night.
This year there seemed to be a fantastic crowd who enjoyed the wonderful creative spectacle, the car parks were full and thankfully the weather was brilliant.
Leading the procession was the carnival Queen and her attendants, followed by participants walking and on floats, providing a magnificent display.
Themes varied from films to festivals, and Zumba to the Olympics. The standard of entries in Hartland Carnival was second to none — the pictures tell the story.
There were 16 walking entries, which included many large groups, 19 floats and one in the ‘Animal’ category, War Horse.
‘Roald Dahl’ was a popular theme and the ‘100th Birthday Party’ won the Best Overall Walker as well as the Most Entertaining Walker. Benjamin Rogers, who was a peacock, won the Best Children’s Walking entry.
The Most Outstanding Float was Beware of the Ogre, with the Best Local Tableau being Jungle Book, which also was the Most Entertaining Float.
Paul Hopper and Paul Crockett from The Voice helped with the judging in the entertaining categories, thanks were given to them for coming.
There was also entertainment provided outside in the square, including fairground, food and stalls, with free entertainment and displays including Hartland Town Band, Majorettes, Samba Bands, Street Style Dancing and Power Stilts Display, live bands and street entertainers.
