The ladies who attend the Bridgerule Arts and Crafts Group did amazingly when the idea of making poppies was suggested.

Most of the poppies are knitted, there are a few crocheted and some are made of felt and card etc. but the final number that they made is astonishing for such a small group of ladies.

The wool poppies that can cope with a bit of Devon rain are now displayed on the Methodist Chapel railings which include blue ones reminding everyone of the nine-million animals that died during WWI.

The more fragile poppies are displayed in the village hall along with poignant verses taken from memoriam cards of soldiers.

Also displayed are paintings of poppies done by Jaqi Edwards during a painting afternoon at the hall with the lesson taken by the talented Janet Grant of Pyworthy.

The Arts and Crafts Group welcomes new members who meet every two weeks at the hall — details can be obtained by phoning Joan on 01288 381002.
