THE Crackington Institute held a cream tea event for Cornwall Air Ambulance on Sunday, July 21, raising over £1,000 for the charity.

Organised by a close-knit team of volunteers, the event saw a huge turnout of people come along to the sunny Sunday afternoon event, with a group of 18 from Denmark also showing their support.

Julie Morris, co-organiser, said: “It was a really lovely afternoon with a really good turnout. The Crackington Institute have always been very supportive of the air ambulance, and always been very appreciative of the charity’s work. There’s always a very good turnout and we also had a good number of visitors as well. The institute always gets a visit from a couple of families from Denmark, who usually bring between eight and ten people with them. When they came through the door this time, I said how nice it was to see them again and there were 18 of them! So they went and enjoyed their cream teas on the picnic benches outside, and they stayed there all afternoon.

“It’s a really nice event — the sunshine always helps and we have lovely facilities there.”

As well as the cream teas there was a plant sale, which raised £170 alone. Overall, the team managed to raise £1,100 for the Cornwall Air Ambulance, with donations pouring in.

Julie was keen to thank the sponsors who supplied cream and jam for the event, as well as Sainsburys for providing flour, butter and other ingredients to make the delicious scones. She said: “It was a really nice afternoon. We have a team of 12 strong supporters and it was all done properly with bone china, real coffee and cafetieres. We try to do the best we can and just ask for donations rather than giving a set price for anything.

“We have a really good team and without them and their support we couldn’t do it, so thank you!”
