CAMELFORD Town Council has given £200 towards a new baby-changing unit at Camelford Hall.

At the recent meeting of the town council, councillors heard that the hall management committee had requested the annual donation of £1,000 towards keeping the hall toilets open, which was granted.

They also submitted a separate request for money towards a new baby-changing unit, which would cost £398, and they asked for £400.

Cllr Andy Shaw said: “I think it’s a ruddy cheek to ask for more than the budgeted costs.”

Cllr Rob Rotchell said: “They can ask for £400 but we can offer ‘x’, whatever that may be.”

Cllr Shaw said: “I would like to make a suggestion that we offer 25% of the cost — £100.”

Cllr Sue Elford questioned the cost of the unit, and asked if they could find one a bit cheaper, possibly online.

She proposed the council make a donation of £200. This was seconded by Cllr Emma Grigg, eight voted in favour and one abstained from the vote.
