A LAUNCESTON councillor has called for action to be taken to speed up the completion of the Kensey Valley Meadow development in the town.

Alex Folkes, Cornwall Councillor for Launceston Central, has met with council officers to try to speed up the adoption of the area and the provision of the promised play area.

He said: "The Kensey Valley Meadow development is still not completed despite some residents having moved in more than four years ago. It is high time that this development was completed and all the promised services put in place so that local residents can get on with their lives enjoying the full range of council services.

"I have asked officers to get in touch with the current developers, Elan Homes, to find out what their timetable is for completion of the works. At present, the upper section of the development is finished and I see no reason why these roads cannot be adopted whilst the works on the lower section are completed."

He added: "I am also keen to see the promised play area put in place. The original developers made a promise to provide an 'equipped play area' as part of their application and local families need this sooner rather than later. Officers have promised to look into this.

"Officers will also be talking to Elan about fencing on the site. A number of plots are not being worked on at the moment and I am concerned that these areas are not securely fenced off. I am worried that they will be a danger for children.

"However there is some good news. In response to my previous concerns, the overgrown bushes in the central reservation, which were a hazard to motorists, have been cut back and I am asking Elan to make sure that such maintenance takes place more regularly in future."
