A TOWN council is contuining its campaign for devolution of services from Cornwall Council, claiming it would be more beneficial for the area. Bude-Stratton Town Council is calling for more responsibility of services, including car parks, toilets, street cleaning and dog fouling. Talks with Cornwall Council have been ongoing for more than five years, but the mayor, Frank Partridge, feels progress is finally being made with the new county council and hopes some services will be in the town council's control by next April. A discussion was sparked at the town council meeting last Thursday, following a letter of complaint from a Cornish coach company, which had parking problems on a recent visit to Bude. The council would reply, but it was Cornwall Council's responsibility to resolve the matter. Cllr Alan Biggs said: "One of the reasons I came on this council was to see some localism and see the car parking coming back to Bude. If we controlled these things at a local level it would make sense." For the full report, and a round-up of the area news and sport, see this week's edition of the Post.
