CORNWALL Council has unanimously agreed to support the Camelford bypass scheme with a contribution of £6.5-million.

The decision was made this morning at the meeting of the council’s cabinet, with support coming from councillors including Cllr Rob Rotchell of Camelford and Cllr Dominic Fairman, amongst others. The meeting was also attended by members of Camelford Town Council and town mayor, Claire Hewlett, who were keen to see the outcome of the meeting.

Camelford was declared an air quality management area in January 2017, and following public consultations, a bypass was deemed the most viable way to provide a solution to the problem.

Following the news this morning, there is an anticipated start date for 2021, with hopes for the scheme to be open in 2023.
