Launceston Town Council has made changes to its services since the lockdown was introduced across the county.

The town council office is closed, but officers can be contacted 9am to 5pm via email at [email protected] or via phone 9am to 1pm, on 01566 773693.

Laws have been amended to allow the council to hold ‘virtual’ meetings and Launceston Town Council will continue to hold committee meetings as scheduled. These meetings will be streamed live on their Facebook page. A calendar of meetings can be found at https://launceston-tc.gov.uk/the-council/committees

The Visitor Information Centre is closed. The monthly markets in the Square are having their usual break for January and February and it is hoped they can return in March. For any queries or to book a table call 01566 772321 or email [email protected]

Lawrence House Museum is closed but the curator and the team of volunteers are busy looking after collections and planning for future events. To have a virtual look at some of the exhibits, follow the Facebook page which is posting regularly with images and information about some of what is to be found in the museum.

Parks, play areas and open spaces remain accessible to the public.

Additional town council guidance for families that plan to visit the play areas:

* If the playground facility has not yet officially been opened, do not attempt to use, or access the equipment or area.

* Do not remove any temporary barriers to the playground or plastic fencing or unravel any swing seats or cables that may have been secured to put them out of use – this must be done safely by town council staff.

* Follow the current social distance guidelines when visiting and encourage children to do the same.

* If the playground is busy, consider coming back at a later time.

* Wash hands and children’s hands before and after visiting. Take hand sanitiser and consider taking a bottle of water for if children’s hands get covered in mud.

* Follow and adhere to all current government advice in addition to the above guidance and pay attention to all information signs.

Westgate Street Public Toilets remain open and provide a public facility and provision for hand washing for people needing to visit the town to purchase essential items, those still at work and bus drivers.

As part of measures to reduce risk of transmission in the community and reduce risk to cleaning staff, the toilets at Race Hill, Newport and The Walk are closed.

Launceston Town Hall and Ambulance Hall will remain open only for activity which is exempt from the current restrictions.

The Westgate Street Multi-Storey Car Park remains open with the parking charges in place.

The Grounds Maintenance team is working as usual. The council has ensured that they have safe working practices and ask that members of the public support this by ensuring to keep a safe distance from them.
