BUDE Foyer, a support complex for young people at risk which opened three years ago, is to close this month in a bid to save money due to "low demand" in the area.
Bude Foyer, run by Cornwall Council and operated by Stonham (a not for profit charity of Home Group), provides six units of accommodation for single, young people, aged 16 to 24, who are homeless or at risk of being homeless, and have a support need. Support is provided for people to move on to independent accommodation, and to be able to successfully maintain a tenancy.
Stonham relies on external funding, but now that the council has decommissioned Bude Foyer, the group "simply cannot run it". It is the council's legal responsibility to tackle homelessness and to find alternative accommodation.
Cornwall Council commissions supported accommodation from a number of providers in Cornwall through the Adult Care, Health and Wellbeing directorate. Supported accommodation provides services to help a person maintain their tenancy.
