LAUNCESTON Town Council heard proposals for a housing development at Priory Mews/Troods Mill, near Riverside, earlier this month.

The town council considered the application for the proposed erection of eight dwellings and associated infrastructure at its planning and economic development committee meeting on June 8.

The planning application seeks to develop approximately 0.15 hectares of land. Documents submitted to Cornwall Council by agents Trewin Design Architects, on behalf of their clients, state the site is currently a brownfield site incorporating existing buildings to be demolished, and is bound by recently constructed residential properties to the north and west, existing buildings to the east and the Launceston Steam railway line to the south.

The proposal is to construct eight semi-detached, two-bedroom dwellings, with a minimum of two parking spaces for each property.

Trewin Design Architects added: “On completion, the development will provide the opportunity for high quality living accommodation, complementing its setting and contributing to the success of the local area, without it being detrimental to the existing landscape.”

The town council’s planning committee has requested further background information in regards to proposals for the site and a full archeological survey investigation be undertaken before any works, as it says ‘the site is of significant historic interest within Cornwall’.

Four objections to the planning application from members of the public have been received by Cornwall Council.

Among the comments listed within the objections are concerns over the width and condition of the road and also a lack of public parking in the vicinity.

Another calls for the council to look into a number of things including access of works traffic and impact on current road; improvement of the current road before building works start; and reassessment of removal of hedges and trees and potential impact on the environment.

The final decision on the application will be taken by Cornwall Council.
