BUDE-STRATTON Town Council has agreed to ban the release of plastic balloons on council-owned land.

At the meeting of the town council on Thursday, July 5, Cornwall Councillor for Bude Peter La Broy (Lib Dem) started by proposing the ban of the release of plastic balloons.

However, Cllr Simon Browning said: “I think we should amend to say mass balloon releases, because these things can be very hard to enforce. But hopefully we can make noise about this through press releases and articles.”

With this proposal, all except Cllr Norman Tucker agreed to accept, stating he didn’t know the reasons for the ban.

Mayor, Cllr Bob Willingham, said: “It damages the wildlife, frightens animals, creates litter — the list is endless, really.”
