THIS is to be the last Ten Tors challenge for the Holsworthy Moorland Training Group if they can’t find a replacement team manager.

Members of the Holsworthy Moorland Training Group recently completed their final training walk in preparation for this year’s Ten Tors challenge on May 7 and 8.

They have been training hard since before Christmas and the team now feel ready, both physically and mentally, to take on this challenge and give it their best to complete the weekend.

For the leaders of the group, this really could be the final training walk for the Ten Tors challenge as the group is likely to be disbanded after this year’s event.

The group has been looking for a replacement team manager for the last 12 months, but has been unsuccessful.

The group was formed almost 30 years ago when the school secretary Shirley Bakel approached Dr David Hillebrandt to ask if he would help start up a group.

Dr Hillebrandt then co-opted Margaret Tyler to help him and between them the organsitation was shared and the group prospered.

Over the years, various people have taken up the role of team manager and the group has seen around 360 young people complete the challenge, gaining a variety of life skills, which has served them well in future life.

The present team manager, Tom Mann, has been in the role for over 10-years and with a large band of parents and helpers has been very successful in getting the whole organisation to run smoothly.

If anyone is interested in taking on the role, please get in contact via the Holsworthy Moorland Training Group Facebook page or contact current team manager Tom Mann on 01409 254467 or Robert Cole on 01409 253628.
