A YOUNG man is taking on a 24-hour cycling challenge — aiming to complete the 277.94 miles from London N11 to his parents’ home in Jacobstow.
Costa Demetriou, 25, who is a personal trainer, is taking on the challenge to fundraise for the Alzheimer’s Society, as both of his grandmothers suffer from Alzheimer’s.
He will set off this Saturday, leaving Friern Barnet at 8am, riding the road bike lent by his uncle David Murphy, who will also be his support driver for the trip.
Costa (pictured) has created his own route using a Garmin Touring GPS computer, and Garmin connect software, and is aiming for 15mph average speed. He said there will be lots of cycling up hill, with approximately a 16,316ft elevation gain and -15,968 elevation loss.
Costa’s cycle will take him through South Downs and New Forest, and his sister Elizabeth will cycle the last 20 miles with him.
The finishing line for Costa’s challenge will be at the gate of his parents’ house.
