SOUTH Petherwin Primary School received an insight into solar panels recently.
The school's council welcomed Cornwall Councillor Phil Parsons and council cabinet member for Schools and Families, Neil Burden and Deputy Leader Jim Curry.
Both cabinet members had promised to visit the school following a request by the school council which was submitted at Cornwall Council's full meeting in October. The school council chairman, Matt Parsons asked Cllr Jim Currie whether 'all schools should be fitted with solar panels'.
The council member informed him that Cornwall Council had a plan to fit, where suitable, solar panels on schools across the county. The visit coincided with the completion of solar panels which were fitted a week before.
Headteacher, Tim Gray and Chair of Governors Jo Parsons took the councillors on a guided tour of the school, meeting and chatting with pupils.
During the school assembly, Mr Gray thanked the guests for their visit and for the swift installation of their solar panels.
He said: "The school is now capable of producing its own electricity and this will help to reduce its long term running cost and contribute to a greener world."
In response, Cllr Neil Burden expressed his thanks to the children for their welcome and wished them all a happy Christmas and new year.
