CORNWALL Council is, after discussions, trying to identify a funding solution to ensure the short term future of the Bude Sea Pool.
The council is trying to establish short term funding, together with a request for a 50 per cent donation from the Bude-Stratton Town Council, which would be used to finance the management of the pool for 2011. During this time, work would continue in terms of developing an alternative delivery model for 2012.
Cornwall Councillor for Flexbury and Poughill, Paula Dolphin said:?"That is great news as it give us enough time to find a suitable solution for 2012 onwards."
Mayor of Bude-Stratton, Peter Moores said that although Cornwall Council were yet to get in contact with the town council it was "good news" money was being made available.
Regarding the long term future of the sea pool, he said: "The town council maintain the stance that we are open to discussing the provision of the pool in future asset transfers and service delivery."
He questioned also why the town council should contribute when, as part of their current cutbacks, Cornwall Council are removing funding from 'non-statutory obligations' when they are making so much on car parking charges.
"The provision of car parks is a non-statutory obligation under both large and small authorities. They are simply being selective in which non-statutory services they wish to discontinue funding," he added.
