DESPITE a grey and drizzly start to the day, the weather cleared recently for the St Breward Church annual Summer Fete, which successfully raised £l,085 towards funds.

Held in the village hall and grounds, this year there was a Cornish theme for the afternoon with stallholders and helpers wearing straw hats trimmed with Cornish ribbon together with aprons made from Cornish tea towels.

The fete was opened by Gill McCombie, British Red Cross Cornwall Appeal Committee Chairman, who gave an interesting and informative talk on what is available from the society for people living in Cornwall.

The St Breward Silver Band played throughout the afternoon, generously giving their time for free, in return for partaking in the delicious teas provided by Anna Corns and her helpers in the village hall.

The star attraction was a display of sheep shearing by the Nankivell family including their youngest son Billy, aged 12, shearing his own sheep. In addition there were 15 different stalls and games including traditional horseshoe pitching and shove ha'penny, a general raffle and a special raffle for a fabulous fruit cake.

A fete spokesperson said:?"Thanks to all supporters, cake bakers and raffle prize donaters to enable another such memorable annual event."
