THE Cornish chamber choir Celtic Voices is to present a concert at the Callington Methodist Church on Saturday, September 24, starting at 7.30pm.

The programme will consist of a popular selection ranging from songs from Les Miserables and The Phantom of the Opera to a composition by Eric Whitacre and other pieces by Cornish composers Kenneth Pelmear and Brian Coleman.

Conducted by Ken Pethick, with accompanist David Bennett of Camborne, the choir will be presenting its final concert in this part of the county as it has decided to disband after Christmas of this year.

The choir was founded in 1982 by the late Hubert Julian and was known then as ‘Celtic Chorale’.

Ken Pethick, who is also a founder member of the choir, became the musical director in 2006 following the death of Hubert Julian and the choir then became known as ‘Celtic Voices’.

Saturday’s concert is being presented under the auspices of Methodist Women in Britain (Cornwall District) and proceeds will be in aid of Farming Community Network.

The compere for the evening will be Rev Mark Pengelly, Superintendent Minister of the Liskeard and Looe Circuit.

The public will be able to turn up at the door and gain access to the concert with a £5 programme admission charge — this price will also include refreshments at the close of the evening.

There will also be a further opportunity to donate to the Farming Community Network, but this will be entirely voluntary.
