THIS was a disappointing result for the league leaders against a Biscovey side who packed the defence and midfield and seemed happy to try to hit the visitors on the break with the long ball out of defence, writes Andy Hunt.

The Clarets fell behind as early as the fifth minute. Chasing down a long ball the home striker appeared to either trip over a blade of grass or unexpectedly got caught off balance by a gust of wind! Whichever, it resulted in a free kick. The normally frugal Claret defence opted for an afternoon of benevolence and allowed Steve Mooney a free header at the far post to put the home side one up.

Launceston slowly got into their stride and started to pass the ball around well. The Clarets were level on the half hour mark when a quick free kick from James Turner allowed Paul Banks to drill in an excellent cross which Shane Hooper headed into the far corner.

With the wind behind them in the second half Launceston should have been able to exert enough pressure to see their opponents off but with worsening weather conditions coupled with a most bizarre decision by the man in the middle Biscovey became only the second team this season to take points off the leaders.

The home team again took the lead from another set piece. Richard Graves tracked back and made a great tackle which the Biscovey player ended up putting out for a goal kick, that was in the real world! In the parallel universe that that the referee kept frequenting however, the ball was kicked out by Graves and so a corner was awarded. Again, Mooney was allowed too much space and directed his header into the top corner.

Again Launceston struck back, this time almost immediately with Turner collecting the ball in the middle, side stepping a challenge before hammering the ball from 30 yards into the bottom corner.

Launceston pushed forward to get the winner with substitute Chris Ward coming the closest when but his shot was cleared off the line in the final moments.
