TESCO has reported a favourable response to its plans to develop a store in Camelford — with over 85 per cent of the people who attended a consultation event in favour of a store.
At the consultation — held at Camelford Hall on Wednesday, January 4 — members of the public were able to take a look at the plans and speak to developers about any concerns they had.
The plan — on the former primary school site at Highfield Road — includes a new Tesco store with approximately 10,000 sq ft of retail space — a third of the size of their Wadebridge store; customer car parking with space for approximately ninety-five cars; parking for disabled customers (seven spaces); green space for community use (just under one acre); a potential health centre; and land reserved for health centre parking with space for approximately forty-five cars.
The small store would focus on selling typical everyday food product ranges, as well as a small amount of household items.
Tesco has said that the store would provide valuable employment for the town and would bring a disused site back into use.
As well as cladding the store in sustainable natural building materials, a large area has been designated for public open space.
Tesco also hopes to plant trees and undertake significant landscaping on the site.
The community green space could be used for a number of things, Tesco has said, such as allotments; open space; a children's play area; formal gardens or a wild meadow.
