My congratulations to Poundstock Ward's new Cornwall councillor, Phil Tucker. May he use his best endeavours to rid us of that awful propaganda sheet 'Your Cornwall' and, in the process, return to this newspaper the revenue it has been denied in official notices and adverts. As for planning application submissions: I'm far less interested in what someone wants to do to a remote listed building than to the house opposite down the road, so please let us be better informed through the medium we so value.

My thanks to all who voted for me and my commiserations to my fellow unsuccessful candidates: in particular to Bob Booker who has worked so hard for us over many years, both as a District councillor and as a County councillor. You'll be a hard act to follow, Bob.

Could I advise people that BT has said free contact with Cornwall Council through the 0300 1234 numbers is not available to anyone on any of the BT tariffs- just one more service that our taxes don't pay for.
