THE Memorial Hall in Holsworthy was full to capacity on Saturday, April 14, for the visit of the Devon Youth Jazz Orchestra (DYJO).
Under the conductorship of Graham Hutton, the senior band ‘DYJO 1’ and the junior band ‘DYJO 2’, presented a superb evening of music including numbers by Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Buddy Rich and Don Ellis.
The evening, organised by Sandra Shepherd, together with a team of helpers, was to raise money for ELF (Exeter Leukaemia Fund).
Mrs Shepherd, having recently undergone treatment at the haematology department of the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, said she wanted to give something back in gratitude.
Local businesses and individuals donated raffle prizes and sponsorship, and during the interval a huge selection of homemade cakes were served, together with tea and coffee. The sum of £2,335.95 was raised for ELF.
