THE damp and dark of an early December night proved no match for the combined appeal of mulled wine, Dave Brubeck and a band of intrepid Cornish musicians on Saturday, December 3.

The evening saw the return, by popular demand, of the harp ensemble Harpers Bizarre to St Breward Parish Church. This time in the company of the choral group Friends in Harmony.

The rector and churchwardens generously made the historic moorland venue available, once again, to St Breward Primary School PTA for this event, which raised over £300 for school funds.

A comfortably-full church was treated to a programme featuring arrangements of Christmas favourites, including 'Let it Snow', 'Winter Wonderland' and 'The Skater's Waltz', by the ensemble's multi-talented director Sarah Deere- Jones, from the Cornwall Harp Centre near Bude.

Friends in Harmony had travelled all the way from Falmouth to delight the audience with renditions of Christmas songs from the thirteenth century to the present day.
