THE Plymouth based choir ‘Resonet’ gave another superb concert in Blisland Church on Saturday, December 10.
Led by Martyn Oates, who is the political editor of BBC South West, the concert was described by village vicar Rev Canon Sherry Bryan in her closing thanks to the choir — ‘this has really kicked off Christmas’.
Although fewer in number than usual, the choir gave an excellent rendition of music for Advent and Christmas largely from the 16th and 17th centuries. With a total of nine composers represented there were thirteen pieces in the concert.
Attending the concert, local music lover Charles Whitehead said: “Most noticeable, for me, was the gentle piece by Thomas Tallis ‘Euge Cæli Porta’ and in a totally different vein, Michael Praetorius’s ‘Psallite, Unigenito’, which although dating from the early 1600’s was like a carol from 300 years later.”
