WORK is about to begin at Better, Splash Leisure Pool in Bude to undertake a complete overhaul of the building management systems.

Better says the ‘significant investment’ back into its centre will modernise its behind the scenes plant equipment, ‘with huge environmental, financial and operational benefits for the leisure centre and our customers’.

The estimated project completion date is October 1.

Interruption to service will be the pool and coffee shop, closed September 3 to September 16.

The 16-week refurbishment at Splash Leisure Centre is being undertaken to replace all the life expired inefficient plant and equipment with new latest technology systems.

Better says the centre and customers will benefit from the refurbishment to deliver the consistent operational conditions expected in a modern day leisure centre. At the same time the new systems will be energy efficient and greatly reduce the centre’s carbon footprint to provide economic benefits.

The aim of the refurbishment project is to replace ageing, beyond life expectancy inefficient plant with the most advanced heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems available up to the present time. The refurbishment project has been designed to manage and deliver the operational conditions required for a leisure centre with maximum energy efficiency.

Very basic electronic control will be replaced with the most sophisticated Building Energy Management System (BEMS) available to date. The BEMS design strategy will take total control of the plant so as to maximise operational efficiency and minimise energy usage whilst delivering the required environmental and operational conditions.

A spokesperson for Better said: “We would like to thank you for your patience during this vital work, and look forward to re-opening our pools and coffee shop on Monday, September 17.

“For more information, speak to a member of staff on your next visit to the centre, who will be happy to help.”
