THE BUDE Lifeboat Run, held on Wednesday, June 16 at Bude Rugby Club, was an outstanding success for organisers and participants alike.

With 64 children and 110 adults taking part, competition was intense.

Sponsored by Outdoor Adventure and organised by the Launceston Road Runners, the fundraising event – now in its second year – saw two strongly competitive runs.

The first race, starting at 6pm, was the 'Junior Relay', which was open to all juniors in school Years 5-10.

It was won by Samuel Merchant and Alfie Oliver of Pyworthy Primary School for years 5-6, Fraser Honey and Ned Oliver of Holsworthy Community College for years 7-8 and Adam Trace and Nathan Roberts of Budehaven Community School for years 9-10.

The one mile Junior Relay course was a single lap using the cycle-way and canal towpath with a connecting path over the Peter Truscott Bridge.

The 'Senior Race' of six miles was a single lap route, using two miles of flat cycle-ways for the route out, three miles of flat canal towpath for the route back and a connecting one mile hilly cross country footpath around the Whalesborough estate.

An event spokesperson said: "All the races were marshaled by RNLI volunteers and all proceeds donated to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, the charity that saves lives at sea. So far, this year's Bude Lifeboat Run has raised £870.00 for the RNLI and runner's sponsor money is still coming.

"The Bude Lifeboat Run is proud to be associated with CATS (Community Action Through Sport) a partnership designed to promote and reward positive community activity by young people through the presentation of sporting awards."

The spokesperson added: "A special thank you goes to Bude Rugby Club for the allowing us to use such splendid facilities."
