After almost ten years, the Ridgegrove Residents’ Association has been resurrected to invoke a sense of community spirit in the area.
There has been no association since 2010 and therefore no resident meetings. But Matt Wilcock has been working since October to reinstate the group. He is now the new chairperson of Ridgegrove Residents’ Association,
The premise behind the Ridgegrove Residents’ Association has always been to encourage community spirit in the area and give the residents a say in what happens, from children’s playgrounds to common issues they might face.
The previous association had amassed £1,100 in a bank account before it folded, due to dwindling numbers. Now that the group has been reinstated, this money can be spent.
Using this as a catalyst, Matt hopes that residents will join him at the next meeting in the White Horse Inn at 11am on Thursday, March 11, where the group members will decide how to spend the money.
Cornwall Councillors and town councillors have been invited to the meeting, where they will hold a question and answer session for residents.
Matt, who resides in Launceston central, briefly explained the reason he wanted to get involved.
He said: “Despite not living in the area myself, I spoke to Bobbie Wright [former chair] who had given me a few folders of information about the previous association. I just wanted to get involved and help to create a community spirit that will better the area as a whole.”
Matt is encouraging people to get involved any way they can, be it online through social media or by attending meetings.
During the most recent meeting, on Thursday, February 6, members signed a new constitution outlining what they hope to achieve.
From dog bins to new playgrounds, the association has both simple and ambitious goals.
If any residents within the area are interested, they are encouraged to email Matt at [email protected] or join the Ridgegrove Residents’ Association Facebook group.
