HOLWORTHY's historic customs were brought back to life during the course of St Peter's Fair, held last week.

The Portreeve and Court Leet, formerly the spokesman of the town, re-enacted the bread weighing, the ale tasting and held a comical 'court' meeting.

The celebrations kicked off on Saturday, July 7 with the Rotary Club's four legged race being one of the day's highlights.

Throughout the week a variety of activities and entertainments took place. This included church services; a party in the square; Holsworthy Playgroup family fun afternoon; Holsworthy Methodist Church Flower Festival; barbecues put on by Holsworthy Amateur Theatrical Society and the scouts; Holsworthy Town Council's medieval themed market; a treasure hunt; pram race; St Peter's Fair sale of fat stock and dairy cattle; street entertainment; David Rowland's fun fair; Lions Junior Town Crier Competition; live music from numerous bands, including local acts and tribute bands and much more.

Temperamental weather failed to deter fair-goers as a large crowd formed outside of Holsworthy church for the 170th Pretty Maid ceremony on Wednesday (July 11), which received a fortunate splash of sunshine aside of the morning's showers.
