A SUPPORT group in Delabole has been set up to help tackle the ongoing Coronavirus situation.

Since being started by members of the village Christmas lights committee last week, the group have been busy making sure the local community are kept safe and have enough food to survive.

Such has been the generosity, the Port William pub at the nearby Trebarwith Strand, which has been forced to close for the foreseeable future due to the virus, gave away all their vegetables, with residents Richard Lewis and Mark Dungey going down to collect it all before separating it into nine hampers for the elderly residents, while local business and residents have been rallying around, including many food business offering delivery service and volunteers donating their time.

Delabole Coronavirus Support Group spokesperson, Nickiey Hatch said: “One of the guys at the Christmas lights committee mentioned the possibility of a group, and we all agreed it’d be a good idea. I said I’d start a Facebook group and invited some friends who then invited friends and it’s just gone on from there. It’s great to be able to support the local community and surrounding areas.

“We’ve had a great response with lots of people offering to do what they can to help.

“We’ve had the local Spar and other businesses doing deliveries and we’ve had a lovely donation from Port William, who have given us all their vegetables which they weren’t going to use.

“We made up some individual hampers which includes the vegetables, plus butter and milk etc for the elderly and that’s gone down really well. Whatever it is people need help with, we’ll do the best we can to help.”
