BUDE Friends of the Earth will hold an ‘Apple Day’ in the Community Orchard on Sunday, September 30.

Cllr Simon Browning, who is also the treasurer of Bude Friends of the Earth, asked councillors at Bude-Stratton Town Council’s full meeting on Thursday, September 6 for permission to hold it there as it is council-owned property.

Cllr Browning said: “Some of you may recall that we’d like to hold such events. Apple days are held across the country and this would be the first in Bude. “Although we don’t have our own apples yet, as the trees are still growing, we’ll provide juicing facilities for the public to bring their apples a long and have a go.

“It’ll be a celebration of the orchard. We’ve had a few events such as the planting and Heritage Day and it goes does well with the neighbours. If all goes well we’d like to plan for the Apple Day but it suddenly occurred to me it’s council property.”

Town mayor, Bob Willingham, said: “The wild flowers are looking stunning and I’m pleased to see the apples progressing so well.”

Cllr Browning then replied: “Credit goes to Rob (Meredith). He’s behind that but people seem to be really happy with it.”

Cllr Browning then left the room to avoid a conflict of interest, although he was outside for less than a minute.

Cllr Peter Moores proposed that the council should grant permission for the Apple Day to go ahead, which was then seconded and unanimously backed by the rest of the councillors.
