WAITROSE & Partners in Holsworthy presented cheques to local causes on Tuesday, December 4, as part of the Community Matters Scheme.

Representatives from the Holsworthy Day Companions and the Holsworthy Luncheon Club received their cheques on the day from Kirsty Sheehan, assistant team manager for the Waitrose Holsworthy store.

The third charity group to receive funds was The Real Junk Food Project in Camelford who were unable to attend on the day.

The three charities were chosen for October’s Community Matters Scheme as all three are registered charities for the branch’s FareShare scheme.

Waitrose & Partners joined the FareShare scheme to help redistribute surplus food to local charities and in doing so reduce food waste.

Started in the Holsworthy branch in July 2018, the branch have provided more than 50 donations, totalling more than 640kg of food, equivalent to 1,401 meals for local people.

Waitrose & Partners Holsworthy also collect customer donations and share these between the chosen three charities and the local Food Bank located in the Memorial Hall.

FareShare is a UK wide charity fighting hunger and food waste. They redistribute surplus food and have more than 7,000 registered charities in the UK.
