A COMMUNITY company is appealing for people to come forward with potential renewable energy development sites.

Bude Energy Community (BECo) plans to set up a social enterprise — Bude Community Power — which will develop an energy generation business using renewable energies. The business will be owned by local people and run for the benefit of the local community.

The company is asking people to contact them if they think they might have a roof or land suitable for a renewable energy project.

This could include, solar panels on a public or commercial building, a small-scale hydro-electric scheme on a local river or stream, an anaerobic digestion plant on a local farm, a small to medium size wind turbine or a biomass boiler that replaces an oil or LPG boiler in a hotel, leisure centre, holiday complex or care home.

Fred Barker, chairperson of BECo, said: "Those people hosting a project for Bude Community Power will substantially reduce their energy bills without paying a penny. Not only that, they're likely to add value to their land or property, as well as benefit the local community by hosting a project that generates income for a community fund and local community investors."
