BRADWORTHY Parish Council was paid a visited by Jenny Richardson, from North Devon Hospice’s fundraising team, to thank members of the community for their fundraising efforts.

Bradworthy residents have raised and donated a total of £6,672.46, which will go towards helping the hospice provide care for patients and families in the area.

Members of the community have supported the charity in a number of ways, holding fund raising events to raise a substantial amount of money.

In the last year, the North Devon Hospice opened its first ever outreach centre called the Long House, located next to Holsworthy Medical Centre.

Is has enabled the charity to provide care, closer to home for people living in remote corners of North Devon.

It is the biggest development for North Devon Hospice in 10 years.

The Long House will act as a base for the hospice’s community nurses in the Holsworthy area and visit patients in their own homes.

A large fundraising push was needed in order to achieve this goal and the people of Bradworthy responded to this.

Head of fundraising at North Devon Hospice, Ali Hunt said: “We are delighted to have such an amazing building in Holsworthy, but it is our nurses, counsellors and therapists who make such a difference with the care they can offer.

“It is these people who now need your support, so they can continue to provide more and more care to people in this vast, rural corner of North Devon.

“So please do get in touch if you would like to support us in any way. Every pound really does make a difference.”

Now that the Long House building is open Ali has explained that although local people are already benefitting from care and support offered at the Long House, the support of the local people now needs to focus on the people providing the care locally.

She added: “There are several people in the Bradworthy community who are now being supported by the hospice at The Long House in nearby Holsworthy.

“It is fantastic that we are able to offer this so close to home, because the alternative is a long and arduous trip to our main hospice site in Barnstaple.

“So everyone who supports us should know what a huge difference it is already making to local families who are affected by cancer and other life-limiting illnesses.”
