THE community of Delabole commemorated the centenary of the end of the First World War with a series of events.

On Friday, November 9, people gathered at the war memorial for two minutes’ silence. Pupils from Delabole Primary School also attended.

The following day, a coffee morning was held at the chapel in aid of Royal British Legion funds.

On Sunday, a service was held at the war memorial, led by the Rev Bryan Ede, Rev Angela Cooper and Julia Healey. The names of those from the village who lost their lives in the two world wars were read. Wreaths were laid on behalf of the Delabole branches of the Royal British Legion by Andrew Stacey, the Royal Naval Association by Chris Hore, Cornwall Council by Cllr Dominic Fairman, St Teath Parish Council by Gerald Heard, and Camelford Rotary Club by Chris Whitehead. Standard bearers were Delabole Fire Brigade crew commander Clyde Ferguson (RNA) and firefighter Shaun Edwards (RBL).

Following the service, a plaque was unveiled to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War. The plaque was donated by Delabole Slate Quarry.

Camelford Town Band led the procession through the village to the chapel, where a service was held.

In the evening, a concert was held, led by the Port Isaac Chorale, featuring a number of war time songs. A collection was taken.

The Delabole Poppy Appeal collection and events at the chapel raised £2,660 for the Poppy Appeal and thanks were expressed to everyone for their support.
