A COMMUNITY cinema has been awarded a Big Lottery grant.

The Big Lottery has awarded the St Breward Institute and War Memorial Hall a grant of £6,623 towards the purchase of high quality equipment that will enable this much loved community hall to become a proper community cinema.

The committee of the hall started showing films on a monthly basis in September 2015 using its Smartboard and projector, windows were covered with hand made blackout blinds.

Committee member Ivor Chivers said: “This pilot project gave us the experience, support and confidence for us to apply for a grant to purchase more professional equipment.

“Our award from The Big Lottery will enable the larger room of the hall to be equipped with a 10ft wide screen, powerful projector coupled to a 5.1 surround sound audio system and the purchase additional chairs.

“The cinema room is already fitted with a hearing loop and has easy access for wheelchair users. Our aim is to make a visit to The Moorland Community Cinema an enjoyable experience for all.”

The community cinema will be showing film classics with the occasional recent releases.

Mr Chivers added: “Films shows are very much a social occasion with tea and home made cakes served in the interval. A pick up service is available for those with no transport.

“Early days yet, but plans for the Moorland Community Cinema include film evenings with supper and the forming of a children’s film club.”
