COME rain or shine, this year’s Camelford Agricultural Show, held on Wednesday, August 10, was not to be missed, with a variety of activities to try, food to sample and people to meet.

Despite the abundance of drizzle and showers of rain in the morning, families and locals still came along to see what Camelford’s agricultural community had to offer.

A circus workshop and games were available for children on their summer holidays to try; the food hall blessed everyone’s senses with delicious local produce; and Tintagel Brewery provided everyone with the fresh taste of local beer.

Mayor of Camelford, Rob Rotchell, said: “It’s been a very traditional Camelford Show, especially with the weather. It wouldn’t be the same without some rain, but that still hasn’t deterred people. It’s great to see people support their local show.”

Also making an appearance at the Show was the collection of vintage vehicles, the Dog Show and the Young Farmers’ Sheep Shearing competition and Sheep Race, making for a very excitable day for young and old.

The show president, Michael Bromell from Delabole, and his wife, Dorothy, were dressed to impress, scoping the local trade stands, marquees and meeting locals.

Mr Bromell said: “It’s going very well, but it’s a pity on the weather. A lot has changed this year because of health and safety reasons, especially in the horses section.

“We’ve been around to see a lot of the trade stands, which was won by Sleeps this year.”

A highlight for Mrs Bromell was a collection of handmade cards in the horticultural and handicraft tent, which were ‘beautiful’.

Show secretary, Ann Hayne, was also impressed with the entries at this year’s show.

She said: “There have been some good entries; they’ve been better than the last few years. We’ve had some good trade stands too. It’s all going well so far.”

This year also introduced next year’s show secretary, Victoria Wells, as shadow secretary.

Having competed at the show before, Victoria was very excited about what next year’s show may bring.

She added: “It’s been great, although we’ve all got soaking wet in the rain. But we’ve had a lot of people come along this year considering the weather. This year I’m shadowing, but next year I’ll be the secretary for the show.”

The Camelford Agricultural Show was one of the best yet, with the entries in trade stands, animals and other categories being some of the best seen in recent years.
