SEVERN Area Rescue Association (SARA) is looking for around 50 new recruits to join their land rescue team.

The charity, who provide inland rescue boat and land search support across the county, will give the successful applicants full professional training.

John Dutton, executive land search manager for SARA, said: "The demand for SARA's expertise, especially in land search, is increasing and to ensure we can provide a sufficient response it is essential we expand the number of members who are operational in this discipline. This is the largest recruitment drive SARA has undertaken since the 2007 floods.

"We are looking for anyone who is fit enough to fulfil the demands of this role, preferably (but not essentially) with outdoor activity experience. Extensive training is given before anyone is made operational and can respond to taskings."

Anyone interested in volunteering and looking to do something different can attend Coleford Community Fire Station on Monday, July 20.

Interviews will be carried out between August 24 and September 2.
