The Cornwall College Group (TCCG), one of the largest educational providers in the South West, has welcomed Patrick Newberry as its new Chair of Governors.

With a background as a chartered accountant, Patrick spent 25 years as a partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) until his retirement in 2013.

During his time with PwC, Patrick held various roles including Global Leader of Insurance Consulting and Commercial Managing Partner of PwC’s UK Consulting Practice. He also served as a member of PwC’s Supervisory Board.

With TCCG celebrating its recent glowing Ofsted report, Patrick said he was “delighted” to take up this new position on the board “at this exciting moment in its development.”

“I’m looking forward to working with our Principal, John Evans, and the rest of the senior team to continue to put the College in the forefront of further and higher education in the region,” Patrick explained.

“The College has significant investment opportunities, thanks to the support and confidence of Central Government. It is positioned to expand its quality provision for learners rapidly, anticipating the many exciting developments in the Cornwall and Devon world of employment.”

Patrick follows in the footsteps of past Chair Dr Ian Tunbridge OBE.

Patrick added: “I would also like to thank my predecessor as Chair, Ian Tunbridge, for his inspiring leadership in recent years, establishing the College on a sure foundation for the future.”

Joining Patrick as the new TCCG Vice Chair of Governors is Pat Wilde.  In July 2019, Pat retired from a successful 35-year professional management career in Higher Education, encompassing academic governance and compliance, student administration and quality assurance.

Her time at the University of Plymouth covered the ground-breaking days of partnership work in the region, with Cornwall College being one of its pioneers; and she is delighted to be able to continue that relationship by joining the TCCG Board.

“We feel extremely privileged to welcome Patrick and Pat at what is an exciting time for the College,” said John Evans, Principal and Chief Executive of TCCG.

“Our recent, highly successful Ofsted report, saw us achieve an overall ‘Good’ Grade 2 rating and ‘Good’ for each of the eight areas of inspection, which includes ‘quality of education’,” John continued.

“It has shown that through our uncompromising ambition to give the very best experience and outcomes for our learners, we are a college of choice in the communities we serve.”
